The season culminates with a performance of Alonzo King LINES Ballet’s gorgeous new “Scheherazade” – Friday evening, Feb 24, at the Saroyan. Artistic Director Alonzo King's brilliant interpretation of the stories of the 1,001 Nights is not a simple re-mounting of the historical Fokine choreography. Beginning with the inspiration of the Rimsky-Korsakov score and adding 5000-year-old musical instruments to the orchestra, King creates a new insight into the familiar tale of the Princess Scheherazade, the world’s most famous storyteller. With amazing skill and artistry the LINES dancers evoke the spirit of centuries of Oriental folk tales of the “Arabian Nights.”.

The San Francisc o-based Alonzo King LINES company tours internationally on a regular basis and “Scheherazade” is their most acclaimed new work. Also on the bill is Mr. King’s “Dust and Light,” a glowingly-reviewed suite of 15 episodes in the choreographer’s celebrated contemporary ballet idiom, but set to classical themes of Faith by Arcangelo Corelli and Francis Poulenc.

As part of their Fresno appearance, the company will offer a Master Class in the LINES style, and also a 3-day intensive program for high school and college students.
